Modern wedding vows

February 1, 2017

According to law in Australia, where a marriage is solemnised by or in the presence of an authorised celebrant (like me), it is sufficient if each of the parties says to the other, in the presence of the authorised celebrant and the witnesses, the words:

I call upon the persons here present to witness that I <full name> take thee <full name> to be my lawful wedded husband/wife.

or words to that effect.

Many of my couples want to use their wedding as a time to talk more about what the other person means to them. But sometimes writing your own words is difficult. Particularly when you're talking about your feelings for another person.

So if you're writing your own vows, or just planning ahead with something romantic to write in a Valentine's Day card, then have a read through these beautiful vows from i-do.com.au and get some inspiration!

One of my favourites from the site is:

All that I am, and all that I have, I offer to you, in love and in joy. From this day forward I will love and comfort you, hold you close, prize you above all others, and remain faithful to you all the days of our lives.

How lovely is that? All the best for your vow writing, and remember, if you want more inspiration or advice, just give me a call.

Emma x
