Did you know that you don’t actually need to have bridesmaids and groomsmen at all? Boom. That’s something you might not have considered. The bridal party only needs to consist of the two people getting married. That’s it. So that might open up a whole host of ideas for your wedding now. The following are a few ideas of bridal parties that you might consider:
You could invite your parents to be your attendants at your wedding. My dad and his wife actually had their parents be their attendants at their wedding. They had a man of honour and a best lady, which was really special. Their kids were involved too, walking them all down the aisle. Check out my other post about procession ideas for more on that.
On the flip side of the same coin, you could have your children as your attendants. Depending on how old they are, they could walk down the aisle as flower girls/page boys and then sit with other family members, or stand up the front with you as fully fledged attendants.
Cousins, grandparents, aunties, uncles, brothers and sisters are all options to include in your bridal party. I love the clip where the grandmothers are the flower girls! It all depends on your family and how close you are and how you’d like them involved.
Of course, last but absolutely not least, friends are always a great consideration – people you’ve grown up with, people you admire, people you love and/or people who are more family than your actual family.
My advice is to think about the people that you’re going to have up there with you on the day. They’ll be hanging out with you closely on one of the biggest days of your life. They’ll be in the photos for years to come. They’ll help you make memories that you’ll cherish forever. No pressure! Just choose people that will make you happy and who you can have fun with.
